Future Opportunities
Where will you be in five years With Bash Hallow?“Where Will You Be In Five Years?”
In June of 2018, I was interviewed for a online Japanese veterinary channel. The interviewer’s last question took me by surprise, “Where do you see Halow Consulting in 5 years”. I found myself articulating for the first time what I’ve known to be true for awhile. I replied, “I’m in this for the long haul. I love being entrepreneurial; I love my independence; I love being the final say in what happens to my clients, patients, and employees. But,” I added, “there will be fewer private practices around in the future and it will be harder going. I don’t fool myself into believing that making a go of it as a small veterinary business will be easy.”
The Future of Veterinary Medicine?”
For more than two decades many of us have railed against the corporatization of veterinary medicine, and certainly I have been right there in the middle of the pack, but we might as well have been howling at the moon. Consolidation is here and there is nothing any of us are going to do about it; it’s a natural cycle of all industries.
A Glass Half Full…Or More?
For more than two decades many of us have railed against the corporatization of veterinary medicine, and certainly I have been right there in the middle of the pack, but we might as well have been howling at the moon. Consolidation is here and there is nothing any of us are going to do about it; it’s a natural cycle of all industries.
Consolidation is only bad for those that refuse to learn about it and who fail to reposition themselves to best take advantage of it. As the Harvard Business Review says on the topic:
“Companies that evaluate each strategic and operational move according to how it will advance them up through the stages of consolidation will be the most successful.”
Position Yourself for Change
You don’t have to sit back and let others profit from what’s taken you decades to build. There are solutions for you that allow you to stay in control of your day-to-day operations and also benefit from the expansive opportunities that being part of a group or corporation include. You can have an equal share of the wealth that others are taking for their own and sit at the same table where all the decisions are being made. There will always be veterinary medicine, but will you be a leader or bystander within it?
